George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished 1st and second in Silverstone qualifying. The W15 came to life as conditions dried, continuing its upward trajectory from the last few rounds. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen finished behind, lining up in 3rd and 4th for tomorrow’s race.

A mistake in Q1 was costly for Verstappen, who was limited by floor damage throughout the session. Nico Hulkenberg was another stand-out in qualifying, securing an outstanding P6 result. He was followed by Sainz, Stroll, Albon and Alonso.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s dark period continues. Leclerc and Sainz ran the “Imola-spec” car for qualifying, abandoning the upgrades brought in Spain. However, they could only manage P7 and P10.

PEREZ AND LECLERC THE SHOCK EXITS, MERCEDES EXCEL

The first twist of the weekend, as often happens, saw Sergio Perez as the unwanted protagonist. The Mexican driver was eliminated in the first part of qualifying once again.

Over the past few days, it has become public knowledge that Perez is under pressure to keep his seat. Despite his recently signed contract, the Mexican’s performances are not sustainable.

Elsewhere on the grid, there were plenty of highlights in Q1. Magnussen found himself in the gravel as drivers struggled in mixed conditions. Alpine performed poorly, qualifying P18 and P20 – very much derailing their positive momentum heading into this weekend.

Considering how well Hulkenberg qualified for Haas, today will go down as a negative one for Bruno Famin’s team.

It was a very lackluster qualifying from VCARB, who are still trying to find their pre-Spain form. In Q3, we saw both Aston Martins running the AMR24’s pre-Imola specification.

The first attempts in Q3 rewarded the British drivers. George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton found themselves in the top three positions. Mercedes were strong throughout qualifying, consistently challenging at the front McLaren.

With the Silver Arrows locking out the front row, they have a huge opportunity tomorrow. The race start will be important, especially considering that Norris and Verstappen are starting just behind.
