F1 continues to discuss several potential changes to the regulations. One of the biggest topics is Sprint Races, which could become even more frequent on the calendar. Alongside changes to the weekend format, new races on the calendar and a different points system are important issues. For many teams, expanding the points system is at the top of their agenda.
For teams at the back of Formula 1, scoring points has been difficult this year. With such a clearly defined top-5 group of teams, there are some team principals who want to see more drivers awarded points. The argument is that such a change would make the standings more representative.
Of course, this suggestion has been widely criticised. For one, changing the points system based on the dynamics of one season seems very reactionary. Moreover, even this year, teams are attainable for those like RB and Haas who optimise their package.
One suggestion has been to award points to the top 12 finishers. Other more radical proposals have included offering points to every finisher.

DOMENICALI ADDRESSES POSSIBLE CHANGES TO F1 POINTS SYSTEM
Speaking to it.motorsport.com, Stefano Domenicali discussed the speculation on this issue:
“Regarding the points in the world rankings, there was a request from some teams to increase access to points beyond tenth position.
“We are carrying out simulations. But as has always happened in the past when the scoring system was modified assigning points, we need to pay close attention to the contraindications.
“Everyone is happy immediately, then over time the critical issues emerge. But I can say that we won’t have a system that awards points to all the drivers at the start.”
Ultimately, there will be a clearer picture of the path F1 takes on this topic later this year. As it stands, there are several teams who seem adamant that points must be easier to attain. Then again, there is always the possibility that disagreements over minute differences prevent any concrete changes.
With F1 seemingly undergoing various changes, this is becoming another controversial issue for fans.
