Mick Schumacher is a legitimate contender to join Alpine F1 in the future, reveals team principal Bruno Famin. Prior to the controversial incident between Ocon and Gasly in Monaco, the 62-year-old discussed Schumacher’s performances in 2024.
After spending last year as a reserve driver for Mercedes, Mick Schumacher made the decision to return to a full-time racing seat. The German driver signed a contract with Alpine over the winter, competing for the French squad in WEC.
Although there are obvious differences between World Endurance and F1, there is no doubting the high-calibre drivers racing in the series. With this in mind, the former Haas driver grasped the opportunity to prove his level against established drivers with more experience in the series.
So far, Mick Schumacher has been Alpine’s standout performer in WEC. Team principal Bruno Famin has stated this on multiple occasions and reiterated this point in Monaco.

Alpine very happy with Mick Schumacher
Speaking to Sky Germany, he outlined the 24-year-old’s impressive level:
“I’m very happy with Mick, he’s super fast. But that’s not the main thing in the WEC, you have to drive at a consistently high level and have a good team spirit.
“I’m very impressed with him because he adapted his attitude to the long-distance races from day one. He has a very good relationship with his teammates.
“Everything is open for 2025, everyone talks to everyone. It would be a mistake not to have Mick on the list.”
Once again, it must be stressed these comments were made before the Monaco GP clash between Ocon and Gasly. Still, these statements speak to the options available to Alpine for 2025.
Ocon has actually been posturing for a departure from Alpine for some time. After spending years at Enstone, the 2021 Hungarian GP winner might be tired of the team’s lack of progression.
He reminded the media at Alpine’s 2024 launch that he is still – technically – a Mercedes junior driver. Ocon mentioned these ties with the Silver Arrows once again in the build-up to Monaco.
With reports circulating about different teams having interest in the 27-year-old, Bruno Famin will have to consider alternatives. Jack Doohan and Mick Schumacher are currently established as the most obvious candidates for next season.
Following his fiery comments on Sunday, following the developments of these dynamics will be essential.
