Ferrari made Charles Leclerc’s extension official a few days ago, meaning team principal Fred Vasseur kept his promise of extending his contract before the start of the season.

The Monegasque had extended his relationship with Maranello on a 2+2 year deal, keeping him in the team until at least the end of 2026. Depending on performance and whether both sides are satisfied, he could stay even longer.

However, Vasseur’s promise is not yet complete. The seat currently occupied by Carlos Sainz (on a contract expiring at the end of 2024) is unconfirmed.

The reason for this slow evolution, as Formu1a.uno has learned, is Ferrari’s shock efforts to sign Hamilton for the 2025 season alongside Charles Leclerc!

The seven-time World Champion extended his deal with Mercedes last year on a 1+1 year deal. This gives him the flexibility to enter discussions with other teams and sign a new contract for 2025.

Talks have taken place with the presence of Ferrari’s President, John Elkann. The Italian outfit’s boss is in favour of this vision, which is in the process of being defined.

Hamilton

“I talk to Lewis every week, but if signed him every time I hear from him…” these were the comments of Fred Vasseur last year, who at the time was downplaying rumours.

It cannot be overlooked that Vasseur and Hamilton have a 20-year relationship going back to GP2.

If all goes well, we could see this sensational announcement materialise in the next few days. If so, this would cement Vasseur’s original plan and define Ferrari’s lineup before the start of 2024.
