Ferrari: The SF-25 is almost a new concept, 99% of the car is new

The countdown to the new 2025 Ferrari (to be unveiled on February 19th) has begun. Team principal Fred Vassuer has confirmed the information AutoRacer previously gathered during about the 677 project : “In the fourth year of this technical cycle we have a lot of data at hand, the 2025 car will be completely new .

Vasseur previously revealed that only a residual 1% of the 2024 car will be transferred to the SF-25. This shows quite brutally how their 2025 package is a significant departure from last season.

All of the lessons from previous years will contribute to an altogether new machine in 2025. Vasseur has validated Diego T ondi (head of the aerodynamics) and Fabio Montecchi (Chief Project Engineer) on the courageous choices to be made for 2025.

This season will be more than just a transitional year before 2026.

Big visual changes on the outside, continuity internally

The SF-24 in itself was already a car that marked a significant break with the past. Ferrari;s aerodynamics changed significantly after the problems of the old 2023 single-seater.

From what we heard from qualified technical sources, these regulations still have potential to be extracted.”

In short, there is still a good margin for big progress, although the margin for error is small. This is what Ferrari is aiming for, precisely with an aggressive adoption of the pull-rod suspension.

The Scuderia aim to eliminate last year’s limitations, especially confirming getting the tires into the correct window. This is not a trivial undertaking, given how important it is to put these cars in the right operating window.

However, the internal mechanics of the car have not changed . Instead, a series of small and precise evolutions (in the objectives), have been made to this year’s single-seater. While teams like Williams have redistributed the rear of the car, the SF-25’s cooling has not been subject to heavy rearrangement.

Maranello have not made any massive changes to this area – only doing enough to accommodate alterations elsewhere in the car.

For example, the cooling layout will change to adapt to the new chassis.

There will be no Red Bull 2024-like revolution, where Pierre Waché’s technical team implemented big changes to the RB20’s radiator packages .

This caused quite a few problems for the Milton Keynes team, prompting cooling adjustments in Suzuka. Ferrari are not taking this risk, preferring a familiar weight arrangement in the middle of the car

On the 2025 Ferrari, that famous 1% of continuity that Vasseur referred to will include, for example, the air intake. This section of the car will remain triangular like the roll hoop .

This feature that dates back to 2022 with the F1-75, (and even before that on the SF-90) characterizing Ferrari with a less centrally developed cooling scheme (in technical jargon centerline cooling ).

The so-called “ears” glued to the sides of the air-box have been present on all cars until 2024. Even the Ferrari-powered customer cars – namely Sauber and Haas – have preferred to centralize their center of gravity by moving the gearbox oil radiator to the middle of the car to free up other areas.

Ferrari’s air intake has the sole purpose of bringing air to the V6, while the vents will be responsible for circulation in the sidepods.
