The 2025 Formula 1 season is finally about to get underway. There is now very little time left until the pre-season tests in Bahrain, before flying to Australia for the championship opener in Melbourne.
In the meantime, however, Liberty Media put together an historic presentation show for the 10 teams. Teams revealed their liveries for the year, whilst their 2025 cars will be revealed in the coming days.
Many teams did not show their actual 2025 challengers, including Ferrari, who will debut the SF-25 in Fiorano for tomorrow’s filming day. However, the Prancing Horse team has not failed to share the first official images of Charles Leclerc’s single-seater week on social media, as well as the first of Lewis Hamilton.
The SF-25 shares little or nothing with the 2024 single-seater, but as with McLaren the changes are not all visible
When Frederic Vasseur spoke of a SF-25 that was “99% different” to the SF-24, expectations were incredibly high, thinking of a major revolution at Ferrari, in terms of the design vision of the single-seater.
There is no point in minimizing or exaggerating this fact, because as happened at McLaren, even if the MC139 does not look so different from its predecessor, every area of the car has undergone profound evolution and is in fact different from that of last season.
The same was done by the technicians led by the ‘triad’ of Loic Serra, Diego Tondi and Fabio Montecchi who tried to produce a single-seater that has a better balance of performance between Qualifying and Race and also on circuits that require different load levels .
It should not be surprising to see some similarities with the SF-24 and a development philosophy that is not so profoundly different. Some positive ideas have in fact been further developed, as well as the triangular air box.
Then there are some absolute novelties such as the front pull rod suspension. We will analyse the technical details once we have seen the car on the track, up close.
One of the most eye-catching, albeit less useful, novelties is the livery – a darker red colour than last season. The SF-25 thus reveals its first key elements for 2025. Tomorrow, at Fiorano they will complete their first 200km of the season.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will alternate at the wheel to collect their first feelings.
