Carlos Sainz is yet to decide which team he will join next season. The Spaniard has been at the centre of F1 news headlines for several months. Despite being linked to several teams, Sainz admits nothing has been signed or even decided. However, he insists a decision will be taken soon.
For Sainz, the majority of 2024 has been a waiting game, at least in terms of contract negotiations. Not too long ago, Red Bull and Mercedes seemed like two attainable options.
Unfortunately for the 29-year-old, this is no longer the case. Both these front-runners have said Sainz is not a part of their plans for the future.
Although Sainz says there are many teams interested in him, the choices at his disposal are more limited than they were a few months ago.
Sainz: I will not wait any longer
Still, the Ferrari driver told the media in Spain that his future will soon become clear:
“A decision will be made very soon. I don’t want to wait any longer, as it is taking space out of my head. So soon we will have things to talk about.
“I’m still not sure one way or another. I am discussing with my team, and I just need a couple of days back home.
“I haven’t had time to sit down and take a decision, and this is what I will target in the next few weeks.”
As mentioned previously on formu1a.uno, Williams and Sauber are the two obvious paths forward for Sainz.
James Vowles was very honest in Canada about his intentions to sign the Spaniard. He also made a compelling argument for why Williams is the best destination for the three-time race winner.
Meanwhile, there have been reports linking Sainz to a Sauber move for several months. Audi’s arrival as an engine manufacturer in 2026 could make Hinwil a more attractive landing spot.
Ultimately, Sainz must evaluate how much he trusts this emerging project. All the cards are on the table, so an announcement is not far away.
