Nyck de Vries is the first victim of the F1 transfer market in 2023, losing his seat at AlphaTauri after just ten races. Looking to the future, the Dutchman is linked to a potential return to Formula E – the category where he secured a World Championship.
The likes of Helmut Marko and Franz Tost were very optimistic about De Vries heading into this year, describing De Vries as a likely team leader for AlphaTauri.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, these predictions did not materialise. Instead, it was Yuki Tsunoda that established himself as the ‘number 1’ for the Faenza squad.
Tsunoda has secured AlphaTauri’s only two points of the season, comprehensively beating the Formula E Champion in both qualifying and race head-to-heads.
At present, it is reported that De Vries’ next step in motorsport is likely a return to FE. This is a category where the Dutchman has enjoyed success and – no doubt – is still in demand.
He recently broke his silence post-replacement and released a message on social media:
“After recent events, I decided to take some time for myself away from social media, which I will continue to do.
“I would like to thank Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri for the opportunity to live my dream. Of course, it hurts that the F1 chance I dreamed of for so long ended prematurely.
“But Like is not a destination. It’s a journey, and sometimes you have to take the hard road to get to where you want to be.
“I am grateful for our privileged lives, proud of our journey and my family. This is just another experience. We move on and look forward to the next chapter.
“Thank you to everyone for your kind and encouraging messages in the past week. It’s been heart-warming to feel your support.
“P.S. I received some interesting articles about things I’ve said in the last week. For clarity, I haven’t spoken to any media, and for the time being, I’ll enjoy some me time.”
