The Miami race will be remembered as a landmark race for Lando Norris and McLaren. After coming so close on multiple occasions, the British driver-team combination has reached the summit of the mountain. Team principal Andrea Stella wanted to underline precisely this point, especially given the arrival of updates to the MCL38. The speed and consistency shown by the English driver was a statement to the field and represents the team’s future hopes.

STELLA: “ALL WE NEEDED WAS THE MATERIAL TO WIN”

“So many first victories today,” said team principal Andrea Stella after the podium celebrations.

“The most important one, however, is Lando’s because he deserved it so much. We always said when we gave him the right material, he would do it, and he did.”

Norris’ first career triumph came at an important weekend for the team. The team brought a revolutionary car to the track in Miami with an important package of developments. Norris faced the weekend with completely new equipment, while his teammate Oscar Piastri had 50% of the package. In Imola, you will be able to benefit from it in its entirety.

“My thoughts are with the men and women of McLaren. I know what kind of work goes into all this, and it’s a truly deserved result for the entire McLaren team,” Andrea Stella continued.

He made sure to underline how the team’s Miami GP success is the result of work planned for some time.

STELLA: “WE TAKE THIS SPEED AS A GOOD SIGN”

Lando Norris found a success that was anything but obvious, given that the weekend began with a sprint qualifying with a complicated outcome and a sprint in which he didn’t even finish the first lap. Stella then said he was surprised by the speed of the car in comparison with Red Bull, which can only be an encouraging factor for the immediate future:

“We knew that the car was fast. It’s a bit of a surprise, but we take it positively, and we welcome it as a good sign for the future.”

Finally came the team principal’s dedication to Gil De Ferran, who passed away last December: “I hope everyone is enjoying this moment, and the last thing I want to say is that this victory is for Gil De Ferran.”

The work of the McLaren team principal after the race was also highlighted by owner Zak Brown, who said:

“He is fantastic. We wouldn’t have won without Andrea’s leadership. Considering the material he had last year, coming here and having the best car is a truly incredible result. He also gave a boost to the team.”
